The glued panels may be very large and accordingly heavy. For reasons of efficiency, boards are often glued together to produce several steps. This is the case, for example, with spiral staircases: Here, many triangular steps occur, which can be made in pairs from a rectangular panel.
Prior to CNC processing, these pairs are separated by pre-formatting if necessary and each individual component is largely approximated to its contour, so that the processing centre produces little waste or has to machine little wood. The pre-formatting is usually carried out on a sliding table saw or a longitudinal saw.
