General contractors for wood-based panel plants
In the case of large plants for the production of wood-based materials, projects are often offered by a general contractor who assumes overall responsibility. This means that the customer has only one contact partner. The services provided by the general contractor often include engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning as well as service and maintenance. In the case of a wood-based materials plant, the entire scope of supply usually includes the front-end, energy systems, dryers, forming and press line as well as finishing.
Due to the complexity of the projects, high demands are placed on the coordination and integration of various national and international participants. This requires careful planning, cost calculation and project controlling.
The number of new installations per year in the area of these large-scale plants is very small. Two German plant manufacturers are world leaders in this field: Dieffenbacher from Eppingen and Siempelkamp from Krefeld. Both are strong groups of companies with a worldwide presence and each offers all components of a wood-based panel production line within their group from their own fabrication.
In addition to new plants, there is also a market for used plants or plants where used components are mixed with new machines. The specialist in this field is Modul Systeme Engineering (MSE), a German-based subsidiary of the Austrian Andritz Group.
