The board lamellas are butted in longitudinal direction by a finger joint: A force-locked glued connection by wedge-shaped joints. In this way an endless strand is created from the short individual parts.
Finger-jointing takes place in several steps: First the profile of the finger joint is milled. The tool used is the finger joint cutter. To achieve the highest possible efficiency, a finger jointing line usually processes bundles of several lamellas in one pass. Immediately afterwards, the adhesive is applied with a comb or rake, which corresponds to the finger joint profile. Finally, the lamellas are joined together lengthwise, pressed and the adhesive is cured with UV radiation. All this is done in the finger-jointing line in a fully automatic continuous process. The line produces an endless strand of solid wood.
