Wood-basel material
Production of particleboards
Particleboard, also called chipboard (short: PB, sometimes also MDP), is one of the oldest wood-based materials and perhaps the best known. It consists of glued flakes of different sizes, which form a multi-layer structure. The raw density varies between the individual layers: The outer layers consist of fine shavings. The surface is therefore dense; it is smooth and has a high load-bearing capacity. The inner layers are made of coarse flakes; the raw density here is as low as possible. This reduces the amount of material used in production and makes the board lighter overall. Depending on the application, however, the composition can vary considerably. The main uses of particleboard are in furniture production and interior finishing.
